TINY DESK EXPERIENCE

OvejaNegra is a PunkSteady band from Chicago, formed in 2018.

​

SKB began writing for the band and music naturally followed, presenting the need for something else: more percussion, more brass. This was the beginning of a new fusion of Afro and Caribbean rhythms.

 

The band incorporates sounds from Rocksteady, Chicha, Calypso, roots Ska, and Cumbia, with a unique contribution and homage to psychedelic Soul, Funk, HipHop, and Punk Rock.

OvejaNegra’s rich Chicano sound cultivates from its rhythm section, predominantly Mexican American, and the swing of its Chicago brass section; while Singer/Emcee SKBROK embraces you with his lyrical complexity and conscious essence that lends presence and an uplifting testimony of survival in the mean Chicago streets. The rich stories and elegant musical escapades create an ambiance of love and harmony while the influence of Afro-Caribbean rhythms lends a place for its Roots Ska, Chicha, Calypso, and Rocksteady with a radical musical homage to Psychedelic rock, and Latin Soul that give birth to the sound of Chicago’s original PunkSteady band.
